About

Wanbin Sun showed artistic talent even as a young boy. His childhood dream was always to become an artist. He displayed skill in pencil sketches, water colour as well as oil painting. When he was told by a close family friend, that a career path in architecture would utilise all of these skills, he believed he had found his calling. In the mid-90s, two of his works were chosen to be featured in a book called “Memories and Solutions of Young Architects, Chinese Architecture since the 1980s.”

He immigrated to Auckland, New Zealand at the end of 1997 with his young family. where he landed his first architectural job not long after.  For Wanbin, designing and drawing are not chores, but rather tasks that he undertakes with relish. At Stephenson & Turner, Geoff Land – his manager at the time – recognised his design potential and gave him work that ordinarily would be assigned to someone in a higher position, such as the podium of the PWC Building on the wharf in Auckland. In an issue of Trend magazine featuring this building, Wanbin’s name was one of the three people accredited for its design.

In 2003, Wanbin Sun started his own practice, focussing on the design of unique houses. With the efforts that he had put in, he is now well known in the Chinese community for being a trusted and exceptional building designer.

Since 2010, he has started to take on commercial projects. He continues to work on both residential and commercial projects such as Warehouse Buildings, office building and apartment buildings.
